The screams and hysterical screams shook the once silent night again. Before long, you could hear the sound of people talking outside. Some residents of Dusun Karang were awakened by the sound of sadness from the next hamlet, which was only separated by a small river. They asked each other whose children died in the hamlet tonight.
The moon hangs right in the middle under the sky. Thick clouds occasionally crossed to block the glow of light so that darkness once again enveloped the universe. Shadows of strange creatures occasionally catch the eyes of residents flying when the moon illuminates again.
"Leak! Leak! Tuselak! Tuselak!"
The screams of the residents while pointing towards the sky enlivened the night which was only lit by the moon and a few torches.
"Oo, Granny Kaji! Malik incident." The voice of a Koran teacher named Pak Umar was heard from inside the house. He was surprised because the terrible incident was happening again in the next village.
"Another dead baby, Sis?" Syahida asked Fajar --her husband-- with a worried face.
Only a month ago, Syahida gave birth to her first child. Because of that, she is very worried about the safety of her baby.
In the last few months, Dusun Indus, which is to the south of Dusun Karang, has been shocked by the unnatural deaths of babies and adults. It is not yet known who the perpetrators were and what their motives were.
"You wait here, I'll be out in a moment." Fajar rolled up the sarong around his waist. He intends to leave the house to check the situation.
"Don't! I'm afraid of myself, sis." Unknowingly, Syahida intertwined her fingers in anxiety. She tried to hold her husband's steps.
"It's okay. Just a moment, you wait here." Fajar kissed his wife's forehead.
Syahida's eyes were sad, she looked heavy to allow her husband to go out even though he only stood making sure of the yard. However, Fajar still stepped out of the house.
Soon, screams for help were heard.
Tung! Tung! Tung! Tung!
The distinctive sound of bamboo kentongan being hit at a fast rhythm is a code for residents that a critical situation is occurring.
Instantly the situation grew tense. The sound of kentongan in the dark shouted to each other from every corner of the hamlet. It was getting louder, louder, and the sound was getting closer to Karang Hamlet where Fajar lived.
Faintly in the distance, one could see someone running through the dark path with a bamboo torch in hand. He seemed to be crossing over a bamboo bridge that led to Dusun Karang. Residents were asking each other, who came closer to it.
"Sir... help, sir! Babies, sir...," said the person panicking, his breath short. Haltingly he tried to convey the events that occurred in his hamlet.
The middle-aged man's entire body was drenched in sweat. Her unbuttoned shirt made the front of her body look shiny in the reflection of the firelight from the torch she was carrying.
"Mr. Artadi?! Did something else happen?" asked Mr. Umar to the man.
It turned out that he was Mr. Artadi, a resident of Hamlet Indus. For a moment the middle-aged man's eyes swept around. He was nervous, worried that someone was following him.
"Babies in our hamlet ... d-die, sir!" he answered with a panicked face.
Mr. Artadi again ran towards the other crowd to tell what was happening in his hamlet.
Every fifteenth of the upper month or the day after the full moon, there is always news of babies who die unnaturally. It's been four full moon this incident happened. The babies died with rectum bleeding fresh.
According to news circulating, the babies died because their intestines, hearts and livers were missing from their places. The abdominal and chest cavities are empty. Everything was clear from the baby's deflated belly. Almost certainly, this has something to do with the practice of black magic.
Eleven babies have become victims. All the same, his rectum was bleeding fresh and his stomach was deflated. Strange, but who did this and how did he do it?
The atmosphere was getting tense, the cold air was getting softer caressing the bodies of residents. At the same time, a stench wafted out and made it difficult for residents to catch their breath. Worried that something would happen to their respective families, the residents of Dusun Karang returned to their homes and locked the doors tightly.
Fajar immediately entered the house to accompany his wife, Syahida. Immediately he barred a one and a half meter log behind the door to lock it.
From a small hole in the wall of a house made of woven bamboo, Fajar could see residents of the next hamlet running through the dark. They fled looking for a safe place. The sound of the footsteps of residents running and the screams of children who were evacuated in the middle of the night made him even more worried and anxious.
For some reason, only residents of Dusun Indus were targeted, but they were still worried because it was not impossible for criminals to target Dusun Karang.
That night, neither of them chose to sleep l
