Theatrical Marriage

Theatrical Marriage

Shanum looked at the minimalist one-story house with dark gray paint combined with white in front of him. There is a mini pond to the right of the yard which is not that wide. On the edge of the pond there were several types of orchids whose names he did not know. Because he is not really interested in all kinds of plants.

"Come in!" asked Mrs. Erna, the woman who had officially become Shanum's mother-in-law since this morning.

Shanum looked at her mother-in-law and mother while smiling. The 25-year-old woman nodded and then entered the house together followed by other families including her husband.

This is where a new chapter of Shanum's life will begin. Today she has legally become the wife of a well-built 28-year-old man named Bima.

The living room measures about seven by six meters and doesn't have a lot of stuff in it. Only the dark gray sofa and a fairly large abstract painting are displayed on the largest sofa. Then in the corner adjacent to the family room, there is a carving cupboard filled with knick-knacks.

Bima spread a rug for the whole family to sit on, who accompanied Shanum to his house. They had a light conversation. Occasionally teases Shanum and Bima who are newlyweds.

About an hour later, the whole family said goodbye to go home. Shanum's parents and family returned to their homes. Meanwhile, Mrs. Erna was invited by Mas Rimba to her house for some time.

"Remember, Bim. I want grandchildren from you as soon as possible," teased Mrs. Erna while saying goodbye to Bima and Shanum. Hearing that Shanum's cheeks immediately blushed. His chest pounded wildly.

After his family and relatives drove him home, Shanum immediately dragged the suitcase he had brought from his parents' house to put in the room. He also felt very tired and wanted to rest soon.

"Mas Bima, where is our room, huh?" asked the woman in the navy blue headscarf while approaching her husband who was looking at the cellphone in his hand.

He glanced at her briefly, then returned to his phone. "You use the front room," he said indifferently.

Shanum's brows knit together. "Mas Bima mean …." Shanum deliberately hung up his sentence because he felt embarrassed to continue it.

Bima now looked at his wife flatly. "Yes, you use the front room," he explained as flat as his first words.

Shanum stared at her husband for a long time, then got rid of the embarrassment to ask. "What do you mean, Mas Bima, we are... not... in the same room?"

"Yes."

“Wh-why?” Shanum ventured to ask Bima for an explanation. He didn't understand why the two of them had to separate rooms.

"Why?" Bima asked back while raising his eyebrows.

Shanum simply nodded. She was a little horrified to be stared at like that by the man who just this morning became her husband. There was a foreign throb that he himself did not understand what it was.

The man's shady eyes made him want to anchor. But alas, the man had actually built a high fortress between them.

"Listen," said Bima again. “You… you know, our marriage… was because of my mother's wish? If it weren't for my mom asking you and her having a history of heart disease, we wouldn't be able to get married."

Shanum was stunned to hear that. Bima's tone was gentle, but word for word that slipped from his thin lips stabbed deep into his solar plexus.

"So... Mas Bima is only forced to marry me?" Shanum thought. He really had no idea. She thought her husband was just like her. Even though this marriage was the result of an arranged marriage, he lived it happily. Turns out Shanum was wrong.

"If you mind," added Bima in a low voice. "You can file for divorce."

Shanum was increasingly speechless when he heard the terrible word coming out of Bima's mouth. For Shanum, marriage is a sacred thing. Not something worth playing with. If possible, he only wants to marry once in his life. Shanum really shuddered at the word divorce.

What would her parents say if it wasn't even a day since they got married that this daughter they were proud of came home with the status of a widow? How will the whole family react if the marriage that is so predicted is destroyed in the blink of an eye?

"Ah no! I don't want to!" Shanum shook his head to drive away the bad thoughts that just passed by.

The sharp-nosed woman immediately returned to take her suitcase and then headed to the front room according to her husband's orders.

Shanum thought that later he would have a good talk with Bima. He really didn't want this marriage to be just a play.

The Maghrib call to prayer echoes stopping Shanum's activities, which is making a report on his laptop. Confused about what to do, the sweet-faced woman chose to do her job.

While carrying the mukena, Shanum left his room and headed for the house prayer room which was in the room next to the dining table. As he passed through the living room, he saw Bima still lying on the couch and engrossed in his cell phone, one of his feet was there
